Pringles Style Compound potato chip (famously known as the Pringles brand) is extruding, in which potato mash is pressed into the usual sheet shape before frying. Doing so makes the chips very consistent in size and shape, making them easy to pack in cardboard tubes. In the United States, the legal term (de jure) is “crisps”, but this name is not commonly used. In contrast, in Europe Pringles are called “potato chips” to distinguish them from the traditional “crisps”.
